I cannot open my email messages
I have logged into my virginmedia email account and have several messages. I am unable to open them. The Help file says that my security must be incorrect.

Did this problem just start after a recent change (e.g., Firefox update) or have you always had this problem with the site?
Often if there are security reasons for a site not to work you will see an unfamiliar notification icon on the address bar to the left of the address. These may include a "shield" (more info on that one: Mixed content blocking in Firefox). Can you find anything there and, if you click it, is there any helpful information?
More generally:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
Also:
Many users have recently become more aware of privacy and either made changes to their cookie settings or installed extensions that stop some information from reaching websites. While this reduces tracking, it also can cause some site functions to break.
As a test, try using the site in Firefox's Safe Mode in a Private Browsing window. This will help bypass restrictive cookie settings, as well as other filtering behaviors of extensions, to see whether those are a factor.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the small dialog that should appear, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)
Then open a private browsing window using either:
- Ctrl+Shift+p
- File menu > New Private Window
- orange Firefox button > New Private Window
In that window, try your email. Any difference?

If you seen certificate warning pages recently and added one or more exceptions:
Some sites that draw content from multiple server may not work correctly because that content from other servers is blocked.
Rather than create yet more exceptions, we should try to get to the bottom of the issue. Please check the "Issued by" section on one or two of the exceptions you've made to learn more about the source of this issue.

Click a certificate and use the View button. The kind of issuer you might find is:
- Name associated with your security software, such as ESET, BitDefender, etc.
- Sendori (indicates unwanted software from Sendori)
- FiddlerRoot (indicates unwanted software named similarly to BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard)
- Something else
