I have downloaded an update to Firefox, but when I try to load it I get this message, "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items" and I have no idea what it is talking about or how to change it.

The previous version of Firefox is still on and operational. I get this message when I try to drag the Firefox icon to the application file icon. Since this is my computer, and I am the administrator, I don't know what privileges I lack, or on which items. If there is a way to correct this I would like to do so and activate the new version. It looks like the new version is 7.0.1 for Mac OS. This happens everytime I try to load the new version by dragging the icon.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

This is helpful, should I do a complete uninstall, or just drag the current app to the trash? Obviously I do want to be sure to hold onto all of the current profile information and I was not sure if the profile folder would disappear if I did a complete uninstall. I know that my hope used to be if I did an uninstall it was because I wanted everything associated with that program gone, all of the support files, libraries etc. associated with it. If I didn't want everything gone, I just did a drag to trash, knowing that supporting stuff would remain.
