It is widely known that PST files are a Microsoft Product speciaility and are not used by anyone else.

You would need to either export your emails in .eml format in order to import them or convert the .pst file to an mbox file in order to import it.

A long time back...TB version 17 (I think) had the ability to import directly from Outlook providing Outlook was installed on same computer and set up as default email client. Once everything was imported then you set Thunderbird as default email cleint. But in versions more recent - I think since version 24, it became unstable and possibly causing crashes and so was disabled in Thunderbird until it could be sorted out.

This is a good addon extension for importing mbox files and .eml files. ImportExportTools:

In order to install a downloaded extension, please do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Drag your downloaded XPI file to the Add-ons Manager tab and drop it.

or

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Click the gear icon at the top-right corner to the left of the search box and select Install Add-on From File…
  3. Locate the XPI file you downloaded and click Open.
  4. You may need to restart Thunderbird when prompted.
