Why is there a "Content Encoding Error?"
I have visited this website thousands of times before using Mozilla Firefox, but now when I try and load the website, all I get is "Content Encoding Error. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression." I have talked to my friends over Instant Messaging and none of them are receiving this problem.

Clear your cache. Tools --> Options --> Advanced --> Network, Clear Now button.
If you are not using Windows see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differen ... x,_and_Mac
It most cases it works...... I had that problem, but after doing this, I don't have this problem...
Open Firefox
1) in the address bar, type: about config 2) promise to be careful 3) type in the filter bar: encoding 4) double click on the value column of network.http.accept-encoding 5) change the 'string value' from gzip, deflate to <strike>true</strike>
Please do not follow this advice as it will corrupt the accept-encoding HTTP header.

Is there a Moderator here? I just get notice of this...
The Moderator says:
"Please do not follow this advice as it will corrupt the accept-encoding HTTP header..."
...but he is not able to suggest how to fix the problem...
If I post that advice because I got that tip online that help me very well, and after I change the config as I wrote, I browse smooth and easy all the pages I cannot upload before.
Some people get well cleaning the cache but it seems not works for everybody. I also clean the cache several time but the problem still remain...
Then, if the cache cleansing doesn't works (before you emigrated to Google Chrome or other browser) as last chance, you can try my advice...
or also try to change the configuration in " gzip, true "...
don't worry the computer DO NOT going to explode!
If you have more problems, you are always in time to get back the default configuration:
default :gzip, deflate
(before you disinstall Firefox and install another browser...)
but anyway you try to do something to yourself, instead browsing all around the net searching for an answer that maybe, you will never find!

Why isn't this "Content Encoding Error" problem fixed? My Firefox has turned into a useless pile of junk in the last couple of days and I get this error message time after time. And even when I don't get that message Firefox is as slow as frozen molasses. IE9 and Chrome are still working fine. I would like to respectfully suggest that someone FIX Firefox.
Content encoding errors can also be caused by corrupted files in the cache.
"Clear the Cache":
- Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
You may also need to remove Cookies from sites causing problems:
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
You can get a "Corrupted Content Error" error if there are multiple location redirects send via the HTTP response headers.
Firefox doesn't allow that for security reasons.
Thanks for the reply. I've always cleared the Cache. Clearing the cache has no effect on this problem. Removing the cookies for individual websites that Firefox is having problems with doesn't have any effect either. Guess I'll look around some more.
I also cannot connect with Firefox and have not been using it for more than 2 weeks. I am using Google Chrome with no problem. I would respectively suggest that Firefox fix this pretty soon or no one will be using it!

This is not from every site I visit eg Facebook sites are ok https://apps.facebook.com/onthefarm/ but this site will not work in Firefox http://au.oztips.yahoo.com/competitions/tipping/league/327/282939/3276/3770475/ All the sites work in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer Please fix this
Can you post a link to a page that gives that error?
IT is great that you are giving all this info. But for a layman like me it means nothing. HOW do I fix it? Are you listening Mozilla FIREFOX?
When I rest my mouse on the error triangle in address bar when I get the error messge "CONTENT ENCODING ERROR" I get "This website does not supply identity information."
When I try to access the Mozilla feedback website right from the Firefox browser itself I get the "Content Encoding Error" message. Firefox can't even access a Mozilla website. Not good.
Yeh I get the same too. All my responses I have sent via Google Chrome.
Does anyone from Mozilla ever read anything on these forums? Does anyone from Mozilla care if Firefox doesn't function properly?
I have just posted a message on Facebook to alert Mozilla. Hopefully they will get the message!
i did not understand a single word this fellow was saying.
that didn't help at all
So let me get this straight. This problem has been on-going for over a year and Mozilla have done nothing about it? Way to go, Mozilla. That 's the way to keep your customers happy!
Apparently, this has been going on since Firefox 4.0.1 and we are now on Firefox 13.0.1. Clearly, Mozilla have no intention of ever fixing this problem. However, I have the perfect solution: switch to Chrome. Why have to suffer the inadequacies of Firefox when you can enjoy a better Web experience with Chrome? Maybe, if enough people started switching to Chrome, Mozilla may actually do something about it.
