Clicking "File --> New Window" opens a new window with ALL the tabs in my main window.

I am running Firefox with a number of windows - one for each task on which I am working. One of the windows I consider my MAIN window. I was in another window, and I wanted to start a new task, so I clicked on "File --> New Window". Firefox opened a new window, but it was NOT what I wanted. I expected a new window with one new tab, but Firefox opened a second copy of my MAIN window, and Firefox seemed to want to open each of the many tabs in that window, even though I have supposedly told Firefox not to open all of the tabs on restart.

I had a problem this afternoon when Firefox was not responding, and the restore files were dated yesterday afternoon. I have had this situation before. This morning I tried to open a new window, and I got the same results as above. So I decided that, since Firefox was not responding so that I could remove the newly created window and I could not debug why Firefox was not updating the restore files, I decided to make backup copies of the day-old restore files and then cancel Firefox (via the Task Manager). Once I had restarted Firefox and it was stable, I tried opening a new window. This was about ten minutes after I had restarted Firefox.

I am running Firefox 67.0 in Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. Thanks.

I don't suppose it's possible that all of those tabs somehow got assigned to your home page setting, which would cause them to load into every new window.

(Otherwise... no explanation.)

You were correct. Somehow my home page was set to all my MAIN window URLs, separated with vertical bars.

I have noticed that some (as yet unknown) process is resetting my home page to Bing. I think I reset my home page by going to my real home page and "sliding" the URL over the "home" icon. When I did this, I must have somehow slid all the URLs for all of the tabs.

A question of GIGO - Should Firefox allow multiple URLs as the home page? I have no idea who would want that. Maybe a pop-up error window asking if I really want all of those URLs (if more than one) as my home page?

Is there a way for Firefox to ask me when some process wants to change my home page? I do not want any process to change my home page without my agreement.

Thanks.

Usually if someone has multiple home pages it's just a few tabs, the sites they always want to start up with. Considering the options of pinned tabs and session restore, perhaps that is obsolete. Yet any time anything is removed, the screaming is deafening, so why change it?

Regarding Bing, do you use Lavasoft Web Companion or might any of your add-ons suddenly have an affiliation with Bing?

It probably is Lavasoft Web Companion , which got installed when I installed some other software.

I can see your point of someone with a few home pages that he/she wants started all together as a home page, so I will withdraw my suggestion for Firefox to notify me if I have a multi-home page.

Multiple homepages can only be set via "Options/Preferences -> Home" (Use Current Pages; with one tab open this would be Use Current Page) AFAIK. If you drag a tab onto the Home button then only this tab is set as the single home page (you need to confirm).

I have no idea how I set my incorrect "multiple pages" hone page. I remember that I tried to drag and drop onto the home page icon, and I remember that I had problems. It is not worth my time to determine exactly how I did what I did not want to do. One of my problems is that I did not have a bookmark for my home page (since remedied), so I could not go to a bookmark to load my home page.
