Performance was already poor in v115, but has gotten much worse since upgrading to 128.5. This is a documented bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1906482 Are there any known workarounds? If not, how can I downgrade with losing all of my settings? I have 7 e-mail accounts and a few calendar accounts set up. This took a lot of time, since several of them require app-specific passwords. Thunderbird complains if I try to open a profile from a newer version in an older version of the software. How can I do this safely?

Firefox/Mozilla/T/Bird: When I open my inbox my emails showup. However when I click on the individual messages some open "normally" and are immediately accessible while others showup with msg notification on a black background with identifying subject but I am unable to open the content of the msg, When I click again it again the screen goes blank and back to mozilla. When I try to "Delete" I have to click on "Inbox" again and all of the unaccessible/unreadable msgs are deleted. Help Thanks Patrick

After I upgraded my system to Kubuntu 24.04 thunderbird started eating CPU (150+% CPU usage according to htop). Because I couldn't tell if the culprit was the new KDE or the old profile, I tried to create a new profile, blow away the KDE config, etc. I also tried downloading the latest version of thunderbird from the website. Nothing helped.

I was able to replicate this problem using the in-memory, fresh KDE.

To replicate: Create Kubuntu 24.04 install USB. Boot from this USB. When asked to install or try, select "Try Kubuntu".

Start Thunderbird.

When prompted to create an account, select cancel. Go into settings, to the bottom, and select Maildir for file storage. Quit thunderbird, and start it again. Create account (select configure manually, enter the information for imap and smtp host, STARTTLS, detect authentication. My username does not contain an @, if that makes a difference). Select "Re-test"

Try to read mail. You will quickly notice that Thunderbird is consuming > 100% CPU, and UI is non-responsive.

Restarting thunderbird does not help.

netstat -tupane shows one or two connections to my imap server port 143, but wireshark doesn't show any traffic on port 143

Not that I think it matters (since I can't get Thunderbird to start seriously downloading from the server) but I have a big ( >100G) Maildir behind my courier server.

Note that I see this problem both with the version on Kubuntu 24.04 install USB, and the latest version downloaded from the thunderbird website.

I feel rather obtuse asking, but how do I get my Thunderbird addressbook to sync to gmail contacts? I uninstalled Cardbook, because Thunderbird now does CardDav, I treid to create a new CardDav addressbook by opening my addressbook, selecting new addressbook, and going through the steps to give Thunderbird access to my Google account. But,

no new address appeared in the list of addressbooks, and
the option to create a new addressbook is no longer avaiable/showing.

Addressbook is still not syncing. My server settings are IMAP. I still have three address books: All, Personal, and Collected.

I am flumoxed. John

Thunderbird is not working anymore. I can start writing an email but after about 5 min it dont take any characters any more. Its lagging and does out. Its in the draft folder and I ry to open but it will not work. If I just write a short message its no problem but as soon as I start write longer messages it will be trouble. It doesnt help restarting the computor. I use win 7 and the latest version. The problem started about a week ago. Writing this is no problem but if I would do it in Thunderbird it will not work by this long in the text. Best regards Stefan [email protected]
