Am unable to click and open new tabs using the new tab button after downloading the newest version of firefox?
have recently downloaded the newest version of firefox. after installing i am happy to say i am pleased with the new look and features etc though for some reason i am unable to open new tabs as before. i now have to right click on bookmarks or favorites and select open in a new tab to do so, rather than simply clicking on the new tab button..

hello tyler, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...
Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
If the problem turns out to be the "New Tabs at the End" extension, there actually is an internal setting for this that you could use instead.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste tabs and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent preference to switch it from true to false. That's it.
attempting this i have unfortunately realized i am unable to once typed an address into the bar click enter to ask it to retrieve the information..?
step one fail..
i did try the add on you mentioned and have sinced removed it as it didnt solve the issue.
Let me see whether I can summarize the results of your testing:
- Testing in regular mode, the new tab "+" button did not work (it didn't open a new tab)
- Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode, the new tab "+" button DID work, but when you type an address in the bar and click the "go" arrow or press the Enter key, Firefox doesn't respond
Is that right?
By the way, do the other methods of opening a new tab work (in normal mode)?
- Ctrl+t
- tap the Alt key > File menu > New Tab
Modified
so.. apparently it wants to work now. im not exactly sure what happened. i had restarted my comp after installing new version of firefox though maybe there was an issue. After restarting my comp today the issue seems to have resolved with no fiddling done by myself.
I appreciate you comment though. Hopefully someone else will find them useful.
