Firefox(and Thunderbird) pinned icons don't show up in my taskbar any longer(no icon at all, not the default file icon)

I updated to the newest versions yesterday and after booting today both my Firefox and Thunderbird Icon, that were pinned to my Win7 taskbar have disappeared. Un- and repinning the .exe files doesn't help the symbol doesn't show at all. Help me please. It's NOT the missing icon problem, where resetting the icon cache helps(I tried that as well though).

I hope someone can help me.

I had the same problem as Maxmw following an update a few months ago. I was hoping an install of the latest version would fix the issue, but it didn't.

I was able to solve the problem though by doing the following:

  1. In the Start Menu, right click on the broken Mozilla Firefox icon/link.
  2. Select "Properties". A window will appear titled Mozilla Firefox Properties.
  3. Select the "Shortcut" tab.
  4. Select "Change Icon". A window will appear by the same title. It will provide two options: 1) browse for an icon or 2) select an icon from a list.
  5. Select a different icon from the one already selected (I had three options). Hit "Ok".
  6. Click "Apply" and then "Ok".
  7. Confirm that the icon in the Start Menu reflects the change.
  8. Repeat step 1.
  9. Select "Pin to Taskbar".

Voila...your little red panda icon should return!

If this method didn't work, my plan b was to repeat steps 1-4, but select option 1 instead. I would have found an icon through Google images and saved it to a memorable location.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestion Adia, but it didn't help unfortunately, the option saying "pin to taskbar" doesn't show up in the context menus at all no matter how i change Icons.

@mha007 I'm not talking about App Tabs, I'm talking about the option of pinning a link/program to the taskbar in Win7.
