Firefox crashes on almost every attempt to load flash content on 6.0 Marshmallow.

Almost every time a page has a flash content to display the browser crashes and the "We are sorry..." Screen pops up. Its not just the web content, its seems to be the flash all together. Using " file:///storage..." to open a saved .swf ends the same; strange NOT all the time, but cca 90% still. On my old tablet with 4.3 jelly bean everything works perfect; pages are loading, content displaying, even the test-stored .swf game works perfect.

Something similar happened before on 4.3 jb, but deleting case, data and reinstalling the fox fixed it, but now not even that works... So, on 4.3 no issue, the same on 6.0 = crash.

I have the latest available adobe flash for android installed just like your help page said, new "reinstalled" firefox, no add-on except the h264 codec which came preinstalled and the pages continue to crash happily...

Please let's make sure that the device is compatible with flash, can you please provide an example url of a video where this happens as well as the device type in order for support to try to also replicate the issue?

Thank you!

I don't think any device is compatible with flash since android 4.1 as the support was cut of in favor of html5, but anyway the flash is working properly it seems, because I used the Adobe flash test; when it finally loaded (~5ht attempt) the animation was there. The URL you asked can be really anything with flash...

http://gameswf.weebly.com/games.html (The first thing I found with flash right now as I lost all my history and bookmarks by reinstalling)

The moment I click on any of the games the screen with the " tap for the plug in " comes up and as I do the browser crashes. I'm using the shield k1 from nvidia, I recorded the crash on screen with a build in feature, but how do I post it for you to see? The Add image doesn't seems to do much...

As I said, it only happens under android 6.0 on shield k1 for me, everything works on 4.3 jb on my Asus memo pad HD 7. I don't think its hardware related as both my tablets are ARM cores (different versions but still), I installed same Firefox from play store, and used the same page and .swf file to test it. The only major difference to me is the OS. Or maybe its the .swf file type to cause problems... SHOCKwave indeed :p

The new version 44 crashes on flash video on YouTube and even on a page like geforce forum. Have to keep the firefox flash on "tap to work" setting permanently now. Don't you have any "old" version I can try out ~v39 or so? BTW Dolphin browser experiences the same problem here, so I don't think its really a Firefox issue...

Hello, anybody there?

Since Flash is no longer supported on the devices with 4 and up and older version of Firefox is not going to help here unfortunately.

Yes, I figured already..., but why on one unsupported android 4.3 it works and on the other android 6.0 don't? Is there a difference in the apk, or difference in handling the browser or anything at all?

Info: I managed the flash to work in Firefox today, a YouTube video and a local .swf, but only once. After I closed the tab and opened a new one and reloaded from history multiple times, it no longer worked -> crashed the browser! What was different? Not that I'm sitting here idli and wait, I want the full browser experience, but nothing works so far :/

As it is a problem on my SHIELD tablet k1, I checked the geforce forum for info...

Found this: https://forums.geforce.com/search/more/sitecommentsearch/flash%20player/?boards=0,150&order=relevance

...I know its old, but among that...

"...it all has to do with they can't (or won't) get it to run on ART. You see, KitKat and all versions of Android before it ran in Davlik but Lollipop (Android 5.0) runs in ART. It will not run it natively."

Seems there were issues since android L that were not fixed? Is there a way for Mozilla to fix this, or must I wait for nvidia fix that will possibly never come?

This will never work. The Tegra K1 chip powering your tablet is a 64-bit ARM cpu. Flash crashes on such devices. Adobe has stopped supporting Flash on Android several years ago. Firefox on these 64 bit CPUs will not run Flash in the future to prevent the crash. The site will hopefully fall over to html video.

As long as I know SHIELD K1 runs a four core 32-bit one (checked with CPU-Z apk). Nexus 9 I think also google pixel c run the 64-bit from nvidia. And saying the flash don't work because adobe stopped the support. All adobe did was cut off the new releases for android 4+, but the flash player versions till then are still available in the adobe archives and after installing they work. The only issue is, they are not up to date. It has not stopped working, it was not banned by android, or blocked by source code... It only isn't the newest, that's all. Their is NO reason for it not to work if one installs the last flash player apk for android 4.0 and less.

Sorry if it sounded rude...and thnx for the info on the 64-bit flash "un"support, didn't know that. :p

The old Flash Player for Android was only really made for ARMv7 cpus that existed at the time and not say ARMv8 or Intel for example that came later.

Yet its undeniable that it works on ARMv8 and later. Point of all this (support or not) is that Firefox goes down every time I encounter flash, despite its built-in feature or installed flash apk, which should not happen in the first place. In 1% the flash (.flv, .swf...) works (it loaded and played), but the remaining 99% I experience crash. If nothing else, its at least unusual.

Hi again, can you at least confirm that Firefox's build-in flash works (or not) under ART (AndroidRunTime), not just Dalvik? Or any info on the future of flash under Firefox android, so I can stop annoying you? xD

Thanks

Flash will work with Firefox on Android versions 2.3 through 4 on most devices. It may work up to version 5 of Android. Although it is a largely unsupported configuration.
