Why are popups blocked when the option is not checked?

The Block popups option is not checked. I did a search on "my.hughesnet.com" and the result said that my browser blocked the popup. Why?

Some add-ons may have their own pop-up blockers, or there might be an issue with the scripts in the site where the explanation for their failure is incorrect.

Could you describe the steps leading up to the error and how far you get?

If I start here: http://my.hughesnet.com/

There is a multi-tab search box at the top which by default is going to search the web with Google.

If I type in my query firefox os and click Search, I get a new page with typical looking Google results:

http://home.myhughesnet.com/search/index.php?context=s9n&tab=Web&q=firefox+os

Where is that failing for you?

When I enter the address http://my.hughesnet.com/ it just sits there connecting. When I do a search from Firefox Start page for http://my.hughesnet.com/ I get the message that the popup may be blocked.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

If you can get the page to open, use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Otherwise, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first)

If you can get the page to open, while viewing the page, either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In that dialog you can remove the site's cookies individually.

If you can't get the page to open, call up the dialog anywhere (e.g., right on this page) and change the domain in the search box at the top of the dialog to hughesnet.com and then remove the site's cookies.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
