I tried opening the PDF files and got "gibberish" ,. however I have now noticed that the attached files have a Microsoft Word symbol prefixed before the file name. The only way to open it directly was to click "Open" with no options - this gave the gibberish. I have now used the alternate way of saving the file and Iound that after saving, by using the start icon and finding them and then when I select the file and right click I get an option of "Open with" and using this allows the choice of opening with Word OR Adobe!! opening with Adobe produces Lovely English text!! hope this helps others with the same difficulty. so my follow up question is - how can I set up Adobe/Microsoft outlook to allow me to open files files via the "Open with" choice available thru the Start Icon method? Thanks

I am not sure this is really a firefox support question

So I understand from your earlier posts that you are downloading files using Windows MS Outlook and now have the files on your computer. You will need to check that the files have the correct file extension name, normally that is .pdf for the adobe pdf files.

(I am a windows XP user so i am guessing)
You will need to check you can actually see the file extension, and that it is not hidden, if you inadvertantly save a pdf file with the name 'this-name.pdf.doc ' you may see the file displayed as being called this-name.pdf but being incorrectly identified as a Microsoft word file. Windows looks at the last part of the name, the part after the dot, but some files have more than one dot in them, and sometimes the last part does not dispay.

Something else you may need to do is set the default actions for your files.
