I just installed Firefox 4. Norton Toolbar (5.5) is not compatible. Therefore, I would like to revert back to the previous version of Firefox (I believe it was 3.6.16) but do not know how to do it.

Do I have to uninstall Firefox 4 before installing this version?

more options

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.

To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

Hello elboyero!

You must post your question in a new thread.

But anyway to get the Foxclocks Bar simply press Ctrl+/

That means you must enable your addon bar to see the addons icons or their bars. You can enable or disable by pressing Ctrl+/ or go to View Menu > Toolbars > Addon Bar

I just downloaded the link and scanned with NIS, all was OK. It installed without a hitch and all my previous setups seem to be in place and functioning.

Except for the obvious in the news, the world with my computer is sweet again :). Thanks Cruiter

Dear Sunveer, thank you very much. Your Link is perfect and everything works perfect as before, after installing the "old" version. Do you have a hint, how we all could be informed about the solution of this special "Norton-Toolbar-Problem" inside the 4.0-Update? kind regards Dirk from Germany

Norton says they should have an update in early May to make the toolbar compatible with F4.

I'm ready to go back to the earlier version - just wondering at what point do I delete the listed files from my profile? I'm assuming after uninstalling 4 and downloading 3.6*, but before the actual installation of 3.6* (and yes, I'm a bit hesitant about technical things...). Thank you.

I think, for now, I will return to the older version. I know security updates will end on the older version and we are all asked to upgrade to FF4. However, I do wish they would sort out the menu bar. I hate that 'orange' Firefox on the top left. Who designs these things I wonder?

Thanks TonyE! All seems good now.

1. I am missing my TOR Button and can not add it. I will go back to last version because of it and will never upgrade without compatibility. Are you ever going to be compatible again?

2. I also had add-ons that deleted ALL the cookies automatically including long term cookies when I exited and managed the cookies in a session. I do not like letting sites trace where I go on the net. Its none of their business.

I like MAX privacy and functionality not pretty stuff.

Download the older version you require and save it.

Uninstall FF4. Do NOT delete your favourites or bookmarks.

Then reinstall the older version.

All will be safe when you do this.

I totally understand new features and advantages, but why in heck would you eliminate all the bookmarks. I lost literally years of contacts that were mine, my business' and worst of all my wife's stuff. She's ready to hang me by the ears. What the heck were you guys thinking?
