Storing Thunderbird profile on Google Drive?

Hey folks, I've been posting here a bit lately with regards a large migration I undertook. Glad to say it's all sorted now and everything is running well. Thanks again to anyone who may see this who helped out :)

Anyway, as an extra step for backup, I was thinking, since I have the space free on my Google Drive, it might make more sense to put the app data > users > roaming > thunderbird folder in Google Drive so that it's ALSO backed up to Google Drive, as well as having IMAP back up to the server and as well as another backup provider (CrashPlan) who I'll be signing up with too.

I don't think it would hurt to keep a copy on Google drive too while I'm at it, so if it makes no difference to Thunderbird performance etc and if it's easy to do, I think I'll go for it.

If anyone has any advice on if it's possible and how best to do this, I'd really appreciate it. Will changing the location affect any extensions, add ons etc?

Also, given I have several accounts on my Thunderbird profile, and some are around 2GB, given that I believe these account files change every time time an email is sent or received, will Google Drive try to sync the updated 2GB files every time a change is detected?

I think this was a problem with SugarSync cloud storage before, every time I would send or receive an email, it would start the sync again, and given it happened so often, it would never complete the full sync since the file was so big.

Any feedback would be great :)

Hey thanks for the input, any particular reason why you don't think it's a great idea? I saw a post on another forum about something similar and there didn't seem to be any reservations about it?

Well, looks like there's going to be a MUCH easier solution to this coming very soon (tomorrow??), Google Drive will now be offering folder selection from within Windows, so not relying on one "Drive" where everything will have to be placed to sync. It was the same with SugarSync who I've stopped using now. This will definitely shake things up!
