How can I get the Awesome bar's URL suggestions to not take up the entire top 1/2 of my screen?

more options

I just updated Firefox on my laptop. Now when I go to type urls in the address bar, the url suggestions take up the entire top half of the webpage screen (including ALL the way left to right, under the search bar too). Weirdly, when I do the same thing in the search bar, that only takes up the usual small amount of space directly beneath the search bar.

It's not a critical problem, but it is inconvenient and annoying. I've checked options, and preferences, and this site's info about the address bar, but I can't find a way to get it back to the way it was. Anybody else have- and fix- this preference?

Try this:

--> Open new Firefox tab --> In the address bar type the following command: about:config --> Click on the "I'll be careful, I promise..." button --> In the Search field type: browser.urlbar.maxRichResults --> Double click and modify the value (default is 10)

A lower number will provide less suggestions thus taking up less screen space

Hope this helps!

Firefox 48 changed from a two-line display that had a scroll bar after 6 suggestions to a full width one-line display that shows 10 suggestions. I would think they would be of similar height, but I guess it depends.

To modify the drop-down, you can use custom style rules. I have one on the userstyles.org site, which is a bit broken at the moment, but you can get the idea:
