When I used to open a "new file" or new private window" in the other versions of Internet browser I could get the same page and url duplicated and opened to the same website but in Firefox I am either a choice of a face page or a blank page instead of the same web url as i have running. I do not see this in any of the preferences in Firefox as I used to have in Safari or Internet Explorer. I have an iMac with Snow Leopard browser. Firefox 45.02.

Yes, Firefox has never done that.

Firefox has a couple ways to duplicate the current tab into a new tab:

  • Ctrl+click the reload button -- on Mac it's probably Command+click
  • Ctrl+drag the tab along the tab bar to duplicate it -- on Mac, it's probably Command+drag

Over the years, people also have created add-ons to add this feature to the right-click context menu of a tab, or a toolbar button.

But I'm not aware of either a built-in feature or an add-on for duplicating the current page into a new window or new private window.

Thanks for the update. I think Ctrl does something very different on Mac than Windows if you get a new window, but I'm glad to hear you found something. Could you mention what it is you're Ctrl+clicking on?

jscher2000 – I'm Control Clicking on any part of the page that I want to duplicate a website and that action opens up a small pull down menu at the point of the click – "Save page as; Duplicate; and Duplicate in Private Mode" This solves my problem after so many years of frustration of cutting and pasting the url, thanks again – EasyRyder
