I opened a laptop I haven't used in over a year. Firefox down-dated all my bookmarks to the year-old settings which means lost all my passwords, URLs and links that I had configured. Since the sync is universal, it removed them from ALL my computers. Now, the only way I have of getting the old links, is to restore my entire computer!

needless to say, I am pissed! This is a bug that existed over a year ago and was reported!

For the first time since Firefox was released, I am considering changing to a new browser!

is there any way to recover the new book marks that were deleted?

This is phenomenally stupid!

Chosen solution

For lost bookmarks it would be sufficient to restore a recent backup that still has all the bookmarks.

The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

Other data may be more difficult to restore.

You can look at this utility to browse System Restore points.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
