So I've disabled Firefox updates because of the personal preferences. It keeps nagging me every day with the modal to update. How do I disable this annoying useless feature?

Firefox 85.0 on mac os.

I've tried searching "about:config" for all preferences that contain "update" and look like timers and changed the timestamps to something in the far future. Still no dice, the update dialog keeps appearing every day like clockwork.

I'd like to add for consideration, the "please update" modal looks like it's part of the website you happen to be browsing. I know instantly to avoid that button, but but my aging mother is going to find a way in there one day and accidentally update. I only hope it's legitimately FF and not some kooky malware.

There are ad blockers that can block such things.

How do you completely turn off update checks in Firefox v64? You can use a policies.json file to disable updates for all users. https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md or https://winaero.com/blog/disable-updates-firefox-63-above/

You can use a policies.json file in the distribution folder in the Firefox installation folder instead as also listed in the article, so no need to use GPO keys in the Windows Registry. • https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-policiesjson
