Archiving tagged emails doesn't work right
HI all, this is going to be a bit lengthy, please bear with me.
CONTEXT I use tags to set up a sort of GTD system in my Inbox, and I sort by tag. So my Inbox batches emails under Do Today, In Progress, Waiting For etc. When I've dealt with an email, I archive or delete it. But, I want to untag it first. (I have my reasons ...)
Windows 7, then Windows 10, currently Tb version 78.6.1. (This has been going on for well over a year, maybe two, through several updates.)
PROBLEM I untag the email. Fine. I hit Archive. Nothing happens, the email stays put till I refresh the view by just clicking away to a different folder and clicking back, but then when I come back to the folder, I get the nonsense in the pic I've attached. (You might need to download it to view it. I couldn't get it to display right when I checked.) The nonsense: a blank line, bolded, starting with Re: .... then the date: 1969-12-31 6:00 pm. Often, but not always (I can't figure out what causes it) a corresponding folder is created in the Archives labeled 1969. The archived email is not in the 1969 folder, it's in the correct folder. My next step? Click away, click back. This removes the blank line from the view. Then delete the empty 1969 folder.
The above happens sometimes but not always when I delete as well. Except that I just get the blank line, I don't get the 1969 folder. And... important... it never happens when I hit Archive first without untagging. The email is removed from the view immediately, and sent to the correct folder.
Obviously, the workaround is to archive them tagged, then go untag them in the archive folder, but this is also a hassle, and I don't like workarounds to begin with. My semi-GTD system works really well except for this one annoyance, and I've run out of search term ideas looking for a fix. I've also repaired folders, and checked every setting. My non-programmer conclusion is that the tags are buggy, but if anyone has a more immediate fix I would love to hear it.

The 1969 date indicates a missing date header.

Rather than do a Repair Folder, which is the same as deleting msf files, I would try rebuilding the Inbox by deleting the mbox and msf file, then restarting TB to create a new, uncorrupted folder.

How to avoid folder corruption? Disable antivirus scanning of the profile folder, compact regularly, and try to keep the Inbox as small as possible.
