Since "upgrading" to the new Firefox this morning the Gmail and Twitter tabs on my bookmarks don't respond at all. I can't even open Gmail from the Google home page. Why is this happening?

I've done everything you mention and still have problems. I'm curious as to why it only happens with Twitter (and once or twice with gmail).

You guys did an update a couple years ago and there were problems with Twitter back then too.

Hi LaffyinVegas, I don't understand why Twitter only works part of the day. It sounds like parental control filters gone haywire since who cuts off access at noon? Anyway, you may just have to use a different browser for Twitter if nothing else is working.

Hi Peaty Romano, what do you get on this storage diagnostic: (A) Cookies and Site Data Open the Options/Preferences page using either:
  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it
In the left column, click Privacy & Security On the right side, scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data section Click the Manage Data... button to open the "Manage Cookies and Site Data" dialog. In the dialog's search box, type goog to filter the list. Select the domain(s) relevant to Gmail and click the Remove Selected button. Then click the Save Changes button at the lower right. Any difference when you try the site again? Start Firefox back up again. Do sites work again?

Okay I did the above, removing selected from gmail and something called attachments I thought would be associated with gmail. That did the trick I'm able to get back in again! Thanks for your help, I appreciate it! ~peaty

Now, gmail is screwing up like crazy like it is for other people. What in the heck did your programmers do when they "updated" Firefox? This is ridiculous. Is there any way to go back to the previous version so I can actually use my computer or do I have to use a different browser from now on?

I also got the below message from Twitter today. Is this why that doesn't work half the time?

Important information for Firefox users We recently learned that the way Mozilla Firefox stores cached data from Twitter may have resulted in non-public information being inadvertently stored in the browser's cache. For example, if you downloaded your data using Firefox, the browser may have retained a copy of the download for a period of time. We have made changes to prevent this from happening again. For more information please see this post. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this incident, you can contact Twitter’s Data Protection Officer by completing this online form.

How, exactly?

I haven't researched that scenario. If you are concerned that private data is stored in Firefox's cache, clear the cache: How to clear the Firefox cache.

1) For about a half hour it wouldn't let me get nor send any emails. It kept saying, "Message could not be sent. Check your network and try again" and there would be countdown clock from 5 minutes.

I'd try at 5 minutes and it happened again....and again...and again.

2) I've done the clearing cache thing. Works for a little bit then stops working again. I go to a different browser and it works fine.

This seems like a problem that can hit intermittently in any browser, but I haven't gone through the threads to find a workaround:

Gmail wouldn't even "show up" for an hour this morning. Beyond ridiculous. I need it for work. This never happened until Firefox "updated" about a month ago.

Did I read we can get rid of this version and go to the one before? It's driving me f-ing nuts.

Could you describe that in more detail? For example:

Can you tell from visiting Google search whether you are successfully signed in to your Google account?

A new version of Firefox was released yesterday (75.0). I have no idea whether that will help with the issues you are facing.

It's the same thing that happens when Twitter stops working: I'll go to the bookmark and absolutely nothing shows up. If I try to switch over from a page I'm already on, it stays on that page instead of switching to gmail/Twitter.

If I open a new tab and try to go to gmail/Twitter, it just remains a blank page waiting for me to type something in.

Every other site works fine. I see other people also have problems with gmail and Twitter so it's something that went wrong on your end after you "updated."

Hi LaffyinVegas, the other people who couldn't load those sites fixed it by clearing storage through one means or another, but yours seems to be intermittent and returns, so I don't know whether it is the same issue.

I did clear storage. Works for about a day then fills back up then won't work. Then an hour later will start working again even though I didn't clear everything again.

I don't use Gmail on Firefox, but was having the same problem with Twitter pages and also with at least one other site (Carfax) after upgrading to Firefox 75.0 on MacOs Catalina. Prior to checking the solutions on this page, the only solution I'd found was to use the domain https://mobile.twitter.com instead of https://twitter.com. But that meant that none of the Twitter addresses in my history were functional and therefore also no auto-complete. I tried the solution of clearing storage and restarting, and that seems to have resolved it. Thanks.

I've done the clearing storage and re-starting thing and it works for a day.....then goes back to being screwed up again.

It's ridiculous his only advice is "it's your computer's fault so fix it" when I don't have a problem on any other browser.
