When I click a link in Firefox, that opens in a new window, that new window does not display the toolbar. If, however, I right click the link, and click open in a new window, the new window does include the toolbar. I can not find controls that allow me to change this so that clicking a link opens a new window with a toolbar. The address bar is always included.

This started around the time of the last update, though I honestly couldn't tell you if it was the exact day or not. Before this, new windows created by clicking links always included the toolbar, and I would like to go back to this.

HI OcelotMorris, I understand that when you click on a link inside a webpage that it opens without the toolbar, however when right clicking to open in a new window it does. I am happy to help.

First, please make sure that having multiple installs of extensions is not affecting your browsing experience. There are two installs of Flash in your profile.

Second, please make sure that this is not just happening with one link. There are some sites with embedded links that open up with no toolbars, the help pop up window for example. If you have an example url, we can better deterimine if it is or not, or try this:

  1. Right click on the link and click "Inspect Element"
  2. Is there a value in the onclick value of the url's html mark up? ( <a herf ="link" onclick =" FUNCTION">)

(example: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20.../how-to-open-a-url-in-new-window-without-toolbar-menubar) or is there a function window.open("url")

If not, and this is happening in more than one place try to see if you can reproduce it in Safe Mode (this will tell you if its an add on or hardware acceleration):

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
