Sidebar in Windows 11 Pro

more options

I am so frustrated. Although I'm relatively computer literate, I cannot find a way to stop that sidebar from opening up on Firefox Browser 133.0. I'm using Windows 11 Pro. I can find no button that allows me to either delete it or prevent it from opening. For heavens sake, not everyone wants all this stuff. I just want a great browser with minimal things to have to deal with. It is irritating to have to deal with this when there appears to be no simple solution to get rid of it. I do not feel comfortable with having to try to delete a profile element. Just give me the button to say I don't want it showing up when I open Firefox on my computer. It can't be that difficult. I use the menu bar at the top of the page to deal with bookmarks. I don't need a sidebar. Give me the option to get rid of it. It will always be there to hit the button on again if I choose to but I know I never will. It interferes with my page. If it isn't fixing something that is broken, and you want to try new things, fine. But give me the option to delete it from my experience.

Hi

If you select the cog wheel icon at the bottom of the sidebar launcher, you should see an option to "Show and hide sidebar". Selecting this will hide the sidebar.

I've tried that; doesn't do anything. That's why I'm so frustrated.

Hi, did you select the "Show and hide" option for the Sidebar button? With that setting, when you close the current sidebar, the vertical button bar should be removed, too.

However, that setting does not remove the vertical button bar when the sidebar is open. Is that the problem?

Yes, I select the "Show and hide" option for the Sidebar button. With that setting, when you close the current sidebar, the vertical button bar should be removed, too. It does not remove the sidebar. Yes, I want the whole sidebar removed. I don't ever want to see it again (LOL). It just frustrates me. However, that setting does not remove the vertical button bar when the sidebar is open. Is that the problem? Yes, it is the problem.

I just want to see everything the way I had it BEFORE they updated to 133.0. I have changed my settings to allow me when to update. This always happens to me when I allow someone else to change my settings.

If anyone can help me, I'd be eternally grateful.

Hi

If you right click on the toolbar and select "customise toolbar" you can drag that new button off the toolbar.

So just to be clear on what your situation, I think it is this:

  • You *can* hide the vertical button bar by clicking the Sidebars toolbar button to hide the sidebar completely?
  • You never expect to use any sidebar (Bookmarks, History, Synced Tabs, or an add-on sidebar), so you prefer to not even have the Sidebars button on your toolbar.

There is a temporary preference to roll back the sidebar redesign. By temporary I mean that after most of the reported bugs are worked out, it will be removed. However, it should work for the next 4 weeks. Here's where you find that:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste sidebar.revamp and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the sidebar.revamp preference to switch the value from true to false
