how to always send later
I would prefer to NOT send eMails immediately I hit the "SEND" button, but having to drop a menu down to "send later" is a pain
Can I configure Thunderbird to always send later or add a "send later" button to my toolbar??
Thanks

If you don't need the scheduled-sending of Send Later, but still want regular, automatic emptying of the Outbox, BlunderDelay has already been mentioned. I've no reason to expect it's incompatible with MagicSLR.

When Thunderbird is in 'online' mode with the ability to connect to internet to receive and send emails, it is automatic for thunderbird to show 'Send' button.
When Thunderbird is in 'offline' mode, it will not connect to internet to receive and send emails, it is automatic for thunderbird to show 'Send Later' button.
If in 'online' mode you can still choose to 'Send Later' via 'File' > 'Send Later'. OR another quick method - use the keyboard by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Return to send the email to the Outbox.
Additional: You can quickly swap between 'online' and 'offline' mode by clicking on the small blue screen icons located bottom left on Status Bar; they will change to black screen icon when offline, click again to go back online.
If that's my only solution, it's a bit of a pain
When I send mail, I don't need to know IMMEDIATELY that it's being sent (that's like posting a letter and watching the postman empty the mailbox and drive off with your letter - who does that?)
I'd seen the keyboard shortcut for Send Later, but as I'm juggling Outlook for work eMail and Thunderbird for personal stuff, I'd kind of hoped to make them behave similarly
There's so much other customization possible here, I'd hoped to be able to add a "Send Later" button to my toolbar
Ah well
Maybe BlunderDelay would suit your purposes by clicking "Send" but waiting a preset time before actually sending.
Well, that certainly seems to describe a solution
But when I install and enable the Blunderdelay (with a 5 minute delay) my mail is STILL sent immediately
As if Blunderdelay wasn't there :(
I should have said that if you click Send, the message is sent right away, so you still have to 'Send Later'. BlunderDelay simply saves you from manually selecting File/Send Unsent Messages to empty the Outbox.
Perhaps Send Later is more useful.
Darn - but thanks for the clarification
I really do want a "Send Later" button on my toolbar :(
Install MagicSLR, then right-click the Composition Toolbar in a Write window, Customize, and drag the Send Later button onto the toolbar.
Under the File Menu is Send Later. ctrl+shift+enter is the shortcut
This add on shows a Send Later button. I have no experience with the add on. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/magicslr/

PERFECT!!
Many thanks
Sorry - back again
Send Later is working fine BUT although messages are placed in my Outbox, they don't seem to be being automatically sent
I have to click on Get/Send
Is this the way it's supposed to work??
Yes. With the standard Send Later button it just places them in the Outbox until you send them manually. You never were offered to schedule a time to send were you? You asked for a Send Later button for you toolbar and that is what you got.
If you wand to schedule an email to be sent at a later time try this add on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/send-later-3/?src=search

Sorry - misunderstanding on my part
I thought I'd read somewhere that there was a regular send/receive
But it just seems to be a regular receive as I do get new mail without asking, but stuff in the outbox doesn't go until I send it
I can live with this
Cheers
PS In my defense, "Send Later" is a bit of a misnomer :)
I totally agree with your about a misleading name. Thunderbird is good at that. Kind of like calling permanently removing deleted items compact. Most people think they are zipping their files for later use.
The Send Later add on that I linked to DOES let you schedule a time for a later send if you want to use that.
