My Firefox insists on opening last page visited even though it's supposed to open on home page.

Bad job guys, this is dumb, I am disappointed.

I've followed instructions found in the following links with no luck:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/833603 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1019367 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1018231

I deleted sessionstore.js it worked once but the issue re-occured afterwards. I don't have the file user.js.

Could you check for a "lock" file in the Firefox program folder? Like the user.js file, this can override your normal settings.

This article describes where to look for local-settings.js and any lock file it refers to: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences

Note that if you have local-settings.js, you need to remove that: simply removing the lock file it references will not work (or that will make Firefox not work).

Make sure that Firefox closes properly to prevent Session Restore from reopening those tabs.

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible). You can leave the sessionstore.bak file with the time stamp appended that Firefox creates automatically in case of updating.

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
