Firefox doesn't save last window size on OS X 10.* when using dual monitor
I have been having problems with the default window size for Firefox 3.* on OS X 10.*. The default behavior would be that new windows are set to the size and position of the last open window. This wasn't the case for me and I tried the things people were suggesting in other forums without success, like: - starting Firefox in Safe mode and resetting toolbar and window settings - moving away the localstore.rdf file
Then I opened the localstore.rdf file in vim and saw that <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#main-window"
sizemode="normal" screenX="1296" screenY="-295" width="1528" height="1025" />
is correct. That is actually the size that I would like as default. Then I tried this without my second monitor and it started working - Firefox saved the window size and position every time I closed it. But as soon as I reattached my second monitor, it wouldn't work anymore.
Is this a bug or this some workaround?
My setup is a MacBook Pro with a monitor attached. I use the small MacBook display for my dock and some programs and I want my Firefox opened pretty big on my larger monitor. Firefox starts up with OS X. I am running Firefox 3.6.11 on OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.4 The problem is the window size, the position is remembered and set correctly.
If you need any more info please let me know. I would really like to get rid of this problem as I'm a webdeveloper and open and close Firefox all the time. Though resizing the window isn't a large task, it really starts to be annoying.

Hi, Yes I had this problem, but solved by finding that if you EXIT Firefox, the window will return to the same position it was in at the START of the last session. If you CLOSE Firefox it will save the position it was in at the END of the last session. Regards Tony.
Thanks for your reply. "Close firefox" as in, close the active window by clicking the red dot? If so - that didn't work.
I found a workaround for this problem. Open Settings > General and select "Show my windows and tabs from last time" in the "When Firefox starts" pulldown. While this is not the solution to the problem (which I think is an actual bug), it does work.

That workaround does not work for me. I use 2 monitors, one a boring monitor that is the primary for the system, the other my projector. I do not turn the projector on unless I am actually going to watch some TV or whatever. Firefox will not start up with a window on my primary monitor, it is always on the projector, even when it is off. "Show my windows and tabs..." will properly restore the websites and windows, but not on the proper monitor.
If I select New Window, that also goes to the projector. I could tolerate this if everything defaulted to the primary monitor, but it is defaulting to the secondary, which is usually off!
