Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
Hi, I have a similar issue as well. I'm trying to upload a photo to a website (www.myveryowncoffee.com), and it doesn't work. It works fine with Safari & Chrome however.
I restarted firefox in safe mode, but it didn't make any difference.
Any suggestions?
Hi dstrand, do you usually use that site on a secure (HTTPS) connection? One of the new features of Firefox 23 is a mixed content blocker. In other words, if the uploader uses an insecure component in a secure page, then Firefox may not run it.
Please check this article for how to recognize this situation and make an exception (assuming you trust the insecure components): Mixed content blocking in Firefox If that is the problem, can you let the site owner know? It will affect all Firefox 23 users who use a secure connection.
Hi jscher2000,
Thank you. You're correct. It uses a secure connection, but when I use the standard http, it still doesn't work with firefox.
I'm the site owner. Any suggestions?

Hi dstrand, each version of Firefox tends to make some changes to the APIs used by JavaScript. You may be running into a script error related to one of those changes. If you check the Error Console (Ctrl+Shift+j) or the Web Console (Ctrl+Shift+k) when invoking the uploader, it may indicate the problem. (You can disregard style warnings when looking through the consoles.)
If your website platform hasn't been updated for a while, you might look into updating.
jscher,
The trouble is, I can't get as far as invoking the uploader. For some reason, the icon that you click on to connect with your computer, isn't active. You can't click on it. However, in all of the other browsers, it works.
My web developer is stumped, because he can't duplicate the error. Firefox works fine for him. Could this be a Mac/PC issue? I'm on a mac.
Oh, and the website is brand new.
There probably are some Mac/PC differences, but I'm not sure we've found one yet...
As a test of how Firefox runs "uncustomized" on your Mac, could you create a new Firefox profile? In addition to bypassing current themes, extensions, and custom settings, it should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder. (Your regular plugins such as Flash and QuickTime will still be available.)
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager as described in this article:
Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles
Click Create Profile and accept the default location suggested (to avoid data loss, do not select any existing folder).
Does the site work as expected in the new profile?
To change back to your regular profile, you can exit Firefox and start the Profile Manager again. Select the desired profile and click Start Firefox. I recommend not using the delete profile button without first backing up all profiles, in case something were to go wrong.
Thank you for staying with this, jscher2000. I really appreciate your help.
I just opened safari with the new profile. Still no change.
Hi dstrand, if I working with this site hands on, I would look at the Error Console or Web Console and see whether I could find any relevant script errors. That might be too much to expect of you at this point.
You might ask your web developer to test in a new profile, just to confirm that he doesn't have any custom settings that are needed to make it work correctly.
Ever since the last update to Firefox, I cannot upload photos to Facebook. All of my add-ons are up to date.
I searched the web and it seems a number of people have this issue. Yet I don't find any straight forward simple solution. I do not want to use more goofy sidebars etc. Why can I not just go to Facebook, sign in and then upload photos as I use to??
Hi Oops, the solution is only straightforward once you know the problem...and I'm pretty sure you won't need to add anything. More often, you need to remove something.
Let's start with the general things: problems with saved data in Firefox's cache, corrupted/outdated cookies, or add-ons that interfere with normal site operation.
Cache and Cookies
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r (Mac: Command+Shift+r) to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
(WIN) orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
(MAC) Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- click the padlock or globe icon on the toolbar > More Information > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove your Facebook cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Any improvement?
Firefox Safe Mode
Firefox's Safe Mode is a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)
Any improvement in Safe Mode?
After playing around for a few hours, I found the problem. I had changed settings to allow for logging into federal credit union banking institution, which never worked right anyway, and in making those changes to the Firefox Browser it would no longer allow me to upload photos.
I can tell you that TWC was also called and their first reply was that I needed to switch browsers to Chrome and it would work. I like Firefox because I can control security. So glad to have found the solution.
No tracking No remembering history Use private browsing mode
Life is good and I can now upload with no problems.
