how to rollback
Yesterday Thunderbird upgraded itself to a version which will no longer run Lightning. For me, this is a crisis as I need access to my calendar. Please don't suggest I get a working copy of Lightning and install it, as apparently no such thing exists.
How do I roll-back to the previous working version? I am running Ubuntu 16.04. I have no idea what the last working version of Thunderbird was but my current (broken) version is 60.2.1.
Thank you for any suggestions.

The official builds of Thunderbird Release comes with the lightning bundled now.
The third-party Linux package builds may have the two separated.
With Ubuntu you need to install xul-ext-lightning package I believe however that is only English if that matters.
When I try to run xul-ext-lightning the terminal tells me:
Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package xul-ext-lightning. E: Couldn't find any package by glob 'xul-ext-lightning.' E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'xul-ext-lightning.'
Advice on how to get around this problem will be greatly appreciated.

I tried to uninstall Thunderbird via the terminal and then change the repository and reinstall. Specifically, I unchecked the Conical repository and added the Mozilla one before re-installation. No joy, the new installation still would not allow me to run Lightning.
I located the tar file on the Mozilla site which contains the Thunderbird files and downloaded it. However, when unpacked, it does not contain a .deb file and I have no idea how to manually install the package.
I am lost without my calendar, no idea what my appointments are. How could Mozilla screw it's loyal users this way? Please, would someone provide a suggestion that I can execute?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

It's Ubuntu who screwed up the packaging for Thunderbird. You should contact Ubuntu support and check with them which repository you need to install to get the xul-ext-lightning package.

Alternatively you can use the vanilla Thunderbird from https://www.thunderbird.net/ . Lightning is bundled with the vanilla Thunderbird. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/installing-thunderbird-linux
Note, you should be familiar with the Unix command line when doing that. Otherwise stick with the distribution packages.
