How to open new windows on second monitor

I'm forced to use FireFox 22.0 to run a helpdesk ticket management program because pressing the backspace key while accessing this application in Internet Explorer causes the browser to return to the previous page.

Here's my setup: Running Windows 7 64, dual monitors, FireFox 22.0. Left monitor is system primary, right monitor is system secondary.

Heres the problem: Firefox runs on my secondary display (right hand side) and the ticket application has new windows that appear to select some items. That new window ALWAYS no matter what I've tried appears on the system's primary monitor (left hand side) and slows down my productivity significantly having to turn my attention away from my application to chase down another dialogue box. To compound this problem, absolutely no software can be installed on this workstation to rectify the issue, otherwise quite frankly I'd be using a different browser.

I've scoured the ends of the universe on Google searching for an answer to this and the ONLY thing I can find is "open firefox on secondary monitor, maximize, close, launch and all is good." No, it's not. That new window STILL only opens on the Primary monitor. To confuse things further, from FireFox on the right side monitor I can press CTRL+N and a new window will appear on the correct monitor.

I think the advice you've seen is for normal windows. When a script specifies the size and location of a pop-up window, that will override the regular position setting.

I wonder whether there is a bug here -- it would be more logical if the position were relative to the location of the Firefox window rather than the origin of the Windows desktop. I searched around in Bugzilla a bit, but didn't see it. I'm not especially skilled at navigating that site...

There is a setting that should force the pop-up into a new tab, but I don't know whether that would be appropriate for this application. If you'd like to try it:

In a new tab, type or paste about:config and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

In the filter box, type or paste link.o and pause while the list is filtered.

Double click these and set the value as desired:

(A) browser.link.open_newwindow

3 = divert new window to a new tab (default) (checked*)
2 = allow link to open a new window (unchecked*)
1 = force new window into same tab

* First checkbox in Options > Tabs

(B) browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction

0 = apply the setting under (A) to ALL new windows (even script windows)
2 = apply the setting under (A) to normal windows, but NOT to script windows with features (default)
1 = override the setting under (A) and always use new windows

I have the exact same issue; ticketing system, OS, and all, except that I have 3 monitors :)

The problem is, as you stated, that the new window is a script window and it certainly dictates the size of the window. Links opening in new windows do open in new tabs but not scripts.

I wonder if I can get our admin to update the scripts. Never hurts to try, I guess.
