I recently moved from Windows XP to Windows 7 and consequently had to re-install Thunderbird. I copied the information from "C:\Documents and Settings\name\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles." I now have 2 folders; "Crash Report" and "Profiles" and 2 files: profiles.ini and registry.dat. I copied and pasted them in to the corresponding folders on my new Windows 7 machine. I then opened Thunderbird and watched as my files were overwritten with new default ones!!!!! So my backup is LOST!!!

Fortunately [I guess] I have a backup from January. My question is this: How do I use it? I want to be sure that this backup is not lost.

P.S. I wish I heard of MozBackup before this =p

Thanks, Adam

Mozbackup would have been one way to do it.

So that means you still have the original profile on the XP machine?

I don't understand what you mean with 'watched as my files were overwritten'.
