Hello,

My FF recent;y updated, and now I don't see my clippings add-on. I as able to re-ad this to my FF, but I don't know how to retrieve the data. In other words, all of my clippings.

I have not backed this up recently, and don't know where to locate this. As I understand there are options to get around this, can you confirm please?

Thank you, Christine Owens

Hi Christine, sorry to hear about this problem. Did your Firefox perform a "Refresh"? The tell-tale sign is a new folder on your Windows desktop named Old Firefox Data that has your entire old Firefox profile (settings) folder inside.

Anything there?

If you recently switched from the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52 to the Extended Support Release of Firefox 60, you may or may not have had one of the newer versions of Clippings. Could you check what extensions are listed on the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Scroll down past "Application Basics" and "Firefox Features" to "Extensions". Then you can select and copy the table that follows (not the entire page, please, that's too much information) using either Ctrl+c or right-click > Copy and then paste it into a reply. It will be messy, but we're used it.

If you have an older version of Clippings (before 6.0), you need to manually import your data to the new version. The first section of this article has the steps for that:

http://aecreations.sourceforge.net/clippings/known-issues.php

The easiest way to open your current profile folder is back on the Troubleshooting Information page, in the first table, the "Open Folder" button.

Please let us know if you run into any problems.

As requested, the table under "Extensions".- Name Version Enabled ID Clippings 6.0.6 true {91aa5abe-9de4-4347-b7b5-322c38dd9271} Google Keep Notes 65.0.0 true {a94d60a0-8408-4c53-8eec-cb349eb958b8} Search Encrypt - A Private Search Engine 2.8.3 true @searchencrypt Thank you, Christine

Okay, it seems Clippings is the latest version (same one I have). Can you find its icon on the main toolbar or on the "overflow" list at the end of the toolbar just before the menu icon? If not, you might need to use Customize to move the icon onto the toolbar. See: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

Next, it seems Clippings didn't import your old data automatically. Could you try the manual import steps in the article I mentioned before:

I was able to re add Clippings. Unfortunately it seems I'll have to manually have to re add each one.

I work in Technical Support, so these are used fairly often. can't say I'm thrilled to have to to do this. *crossing fingers* I have enough backed up to restore most of these.

Thank you for your help. Christine

You should be able to import the old data if you can find that folder.

Hello Christine,

You mentioned that you have this extension installed :

"Search Encrypt - A Private Search Engine 2.8.3 true @searchencrypt"

You may want to remove it, as it is a browser hijacker .....

See : https://www.2-spyware.com/remove-search-encrypt.html

It might also be a good idea to run all malware scans that are listed in this article :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware

Seperate issue :

Your system details show that you need to update your Adobe Flash Player - you're running an old version, which can cause problems. Would you please uninstall your current version and install the latest version, which is 31.0.0.108

Uninstaller : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

Note : some 'extras' may be offered in the download.

Have you updated Firefox to the latest version (62.0.2) yet  ?
