I had to install some crapware, and it made me install snap.do. This was a mistake. I have completely removed snap.do, so I think, but it has injected itself somehow within firefox. I have removed it entirely, cept for when i type anything in the address bar for a search, it currently only searches http://search.snapdo.com/?st=ds&q= its driving me quite batty. Please read my things I have done before you post.

Things I have done.. - Switched the "search box" search engine. I've tried to switch it to something else like yahoo, and then switch back to google, then type in the ADDRESS BAR, still defaults to snap.do. I've also tried all sorts of things, as I believe since firefox 23 whatever you have selected in the search box, will default for the address bar, in my case.. no.

- keyworld.url or any about:config search for snap or snapdo or snap.do or * Listen, this has been gone since firefox 23. I'm running version 27.0.1, ITS NOT THERE DONT SUGGEST THISSS FKJALSDFLKAJSD. I've also tried the keyworld.url hack. First time I tried there was a snap.do keyword and i was like "EFFFIN AAAA!". But after a restart, snapdo still took over.

- Firefox>help>troubleshoot>reset I'll punch you in the face if you even remotely suggest this, i've done it 329049320 times ;)

- Malware/antivirus/dafjkdsj tool. Unless it directly removes snap.do dont even tempt me.

- uninstall/reinstall Ok.. c'mon, you think I havent tried this?

-add/remove programs rly?

Ok so you see my frustration here? One more list..

Things I will not do.. - Delete my firefox profile. I'd just really rather not, as history is how I browse some stuff. and well other things as well, I mean in the end, if i must i must.

But if anyone has any other ideas on how i can force firefox to a search engine please let me know, and i will be your friend ;D

BTW..

No one from the "Support help desk team" had ever contacted me. Its been over a week now. But, I managed to fix it. How?

Well i don't really know. I basically managed to break the awesome bar, by messing with all sorts of hi jack help tools, I tried running a few simultaneously, and I think thats what broke it. By broke it, I mean it wasnt searching anything it would only except urls, if i searched anything it would just be like "jakds does not exist". From there I use some fixer plugins to reset the bar, and got it working.

Thanks for nothing ;D

Uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling won't effect your personal data in the profile folder and thus won't help if there is a problem with your current profile folder.
If you uninstall because of issues then you should always check the Firefox program folder to make sure that no files were leftover.

You didn't attach troubleshooting information, so we can't tell much.

Did you search on the about:config page for snap.do?

You can create a new profile to have a fresh start if you think you have done everything.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Note that your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.

  1. Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0
  2. Shockwave Flash 11.8 r800

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove all (older) version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and (re)install the latest Flash player.

Cor-el has suggested to create a new profile, and as I can see in your initial question posting, it was stated that if you had to, you would do it. So, if you could please do - it would be appreciated.

Something I suggest is a clean reinstall, however that is something you would not like obviously but I will enter those instructions here anyways so you can look over it.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!

Please report back to see if this helped you!

Thank you.

lol love support.mozilla.org .. not so much ;D

C'mon guys, im obviously above your average .. client.. customer.. whatever, give me some real things to try. There has got to be some place where that string is stored, it use to be in keyworld.URL. Now its not, and I have no way to manually find that string, maybe fgrep'ing through the files, but its probably stored in some sort of database, and not in json like most of the settings, but maybe ill try this next.

Wirm, http://malwaretips.com/blogs/snap-do-toolbar-removal/

Resetting Firefox puts the old profile data on your Desktop. If you want to save the profile create a copy of the profile folder and try to reset it after uninstalling snapdo from all of your browsers. Hey wirm,

I am really happy that you have fixed this, but I am sorry for the bad experience. As a part of the help desk, I would like to find out how I can be of better help next time.
