If I click the firefox icon, the crash reporter opens up immediately. I can't enter the safe mode either. However, If I run it as an admin, firefox does open. But I don't feel like I have a need to do with since it used open up fine just yesterday. Is there a way to fix this?

Did you try all above mentioned malware scanners?

The involved file in your case is lpmejxvg.dll as you can see in the modules list of the crash report.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that allows to locate and remove the file either manually or with a malware scanner.

You can also try to scan the Windows registry for that file (Ctrl+F).

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
  3. Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.

IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.

After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:

  • (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
  • (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
  1. Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
  2. In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
  3. Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
    • On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
    • On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
  4. Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.

Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:

  1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
  2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

  1. Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID into the reply window on the forums.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Thank you! That does seem to fix the firefox issue but how do you prevent the computer to stop saying "There was a problem starting lpmejxvg.dll. The specified module could not be found" from popping up everytime the computer is booted?

Did you do a registry search to be sure to remove other keys that point to that file?

You can also try a registry cleaner like CCleaner.

What was the location of the lpmejxvg.dll file?

There is a problem on Windows 8 with Firefox 19 and AMD Radeon HD 6XXX/7XXX graphic display cards.

This issue is currently being investigated in bug 830531.

  • bug 830531 - [Win8] crash in XPC_WN_Helper_NewResolve mainly with AMD Radeon HD 6290/6310/6320/7290/7310/7340

If you have one of those display cards then best is to stay with or downgrade to Firefox 18.0.2 for now or try the Firefox 20 beta version that doesn't seem to be affected.

i've been having the same problem where i will try and start firefox only to have it give a crash report without opening a webpage. i've tried a clean install & running ccleaner & spybot. it'll work when i run it in firefox safe mode but no extensions are enabled. Did not see your Crash IDs, but presume you are on Windows 8 and that it relates to bug 812683 . An alternative and possibly better solution would be to upgrade to Firefox Beta 20, instead of downgrading to fx18.

You would have been better posting in your own thread, because his one is solved, and the original thread owner's crash related to a malware problem.

Possibly backing out recent MS updates, or video driver changes may help.
