Several days ago, I started getting a message when Firefox hangs or freezes saying: firefox is not responding...close or wait for response. I have tried restarting computer and clearing cookies and cache. I am very inexperienced and do not know what to do. I have Windows 7 and the latest version of Firefox. My plugins are up to date; am little intimidated to restart in safe mode or reinstall Firefox. I read when refreshing that extensions and extension data is removed.....not sure what that means. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Refresh Firefox {web link} is a LAST RESORT ! !

Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

If you're having problems with Firefox, refreshing it can help. The refresh feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks, passwords, and open tabs.

Hi.

Quick tips: 1) First of all, if you want to decrease Firefox load time, remove all addons that you installed on it. All addons must be loaded during the load time and most of them are heavy enough to increase load times by a scale of seconds.

2) You might have an add-on that's killing it. Try starting firefox in safe mode. There should be an icon for it in the start menu, or you can open the Run dialogue by pressing Windows key + R and typing firefox -safe-mode

3) If the error occurred (firefox is not responding...close or wait for response):

  • Open Task manager of Windows. Navigate to process tab.
  • Choose process firefox.exe.
  • Right Click on End process tree.
  • Now start Firefox.

I suggest you to check your computer for viruses and Trojan horses
