Since Firefox updated to v89, I can't log into nextdoor.com. I get "There was an error establishing a session. Please try again." I have no problems using Chrome or Edge. I tried clearing Firefox's cache and running in safe mode, but I still get the same error message. I contacted nextdoor.com, but they said it's a Firefox issue.

What do I need to do to get Firefox working correctly?

Chosen solution

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or blocked cookies.

  • check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and when present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

There is security software like Avast, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connection certificates and send their own.

Closed Firefox, renamed cookies.sqlite to cookies.sqlite.old, and restarted. I'm now able to log in and this solution fixed several other odd pages mis-loads (homedepot.com)

Thanks, Cor-el!
