after refreshing firefox I lost all my bookmarks
foxfire was running sloooooow. I read articles in help. went to the help question mark, troubleshooting information and refreshed firefox. when firefox started again I gave me 2 profiles to pick. I didn't know which one to pick so made a new one. now my bookmarks are gone. I'm thinking they are somewhere, but I don't know how to find them.
why is firefox SOOOOOOO hard to get help for??

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

no. not the first time. after I made the new profile and lost my bookmarks and didn't see that folder on my desktop I refreshed firefox again thinking I would have the opportunity to choose one of the other profiles that I didn't choose the first time because I didn't know which one to pick. now there is a Old Firefox folder, but it doesn't have any of my bookmarks in it.
How many profiles do you see in the Profile Manager and on the about:profiles page?
You can check their contents on the hard drive to see if they have your bookmarks.
You can check if you have orphaned profiles that aren't registered in profiles.ini and that do not show in the Firefox Profile Manager. You can check that by opening the current profile folder and go up one level.

- C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

The Old Firefox folder has the old profile folders in it. The file you want is in one of those folders. Check the folder with the most recent date.
ok. I have found 3 profiles. how do I restore the bookmarks? copy and paste? do I do it for all bookmark backups? 2 of the profiles are date modified 5-30-17 and one is dated 5-31-17. both 5-30-17 profiles have a bunch of bookmark files. 5-31-17 has none.
Open the newest profile and look for this file; places.sqlite : History and Bookmarks.
Copy it to the new profile.
1. If you get tired of waiting for the Refresh procedure and close Firefox, your data will be lost. Bye, bye bookmarks, passwords, etc.
2. If you created a new Profile chances are you bookmarks are in the olde Profile.
3. If you have 3 Profiles my guess is that one is the new one that you just created, and the other 2 are probably the sames Profile - one before the Refresh and the other after the Refresh. If so, they would stay with the same 6 - alpha/numeric characters dot default with the Refreshed Profile having an added suffix of a hypen followed by a 13 digit numeric string which is the time / date the Refresh was performed, which is based upon Epoch numbering used in most computers for noting "time" down to a fraction of a second.
so from what I'm reading, and my lack of good results from what you tell me.... I am thinking I did something that zapped my bookmarks. the files names places.sqlite have 10,240 kb in them. I'm thinking that is not much at all. I think I'm boned.... thank you for all your help! sometimes I know just enough to be dangerous....
so I made some new bookmarks. then I closed foxfire. when I went back there -- NO bookmarks.
now what??
