There is a block that will not allow Javascript to open on my computer. I don't know how it got there but it will not allow me to do some of my online class work on my home computer because it will not allow Lockdown Browser to work. It shows up as Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.670.1 10.67.2.1 and adds NP Routine Script Plug-in for Library for Java (TM) Deploy. This is driving me nuts! I've tried disabling it, and it says it can't run, but it still blocks Javascript. Any suggestions?

Is the Java Deployment Toolkit set to Ask to Activate in the Addons Manager > Plugins tab?

Simultaneously press [Ctrl + Shft + A] to open the Addons Manager, then select Plugins

I remember using the Respondus Lockdown Browser from my college experience. From what I can remember, it has its own settings and I'm positive that a javascript "switch" in this browser is not easily triggered (or even found) by the end-user. I also seem to recall that it dove fairly deep in the OS and prevented other browsers from opening on the same machine like Firefox -- in my view this is a dumb idea but the reason why is irrelevant here.

I've just read that the Lockdown browser shares its internet settings with IE (on Windows) and Safari (on Mac) so the source of your javascripting problems is likely on one of those 2 browsers. They say make sure you can login to your school's website on IE or Safari first to confirm everything is working OK.

In regards to the Java Deployment Toolkit (aka, Java DT) plugin -- this is very likely NOT the source of your problems. If you're interested in deleting this plugin in Firefox, follow this thread: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=2877359 as everything you ever wanted to know about Java DT is there. If you need actual "Java" functionality in your browser (not uncommon in the school setting, especially in STEM classes), then don't follow the "permanent" recommendation in that thread (with the red text.)

As user "the-edmeister" said above, javascript is different from "Java." It's actually quite difficult to disable javascript as well -- in Firefox, the only way to disable it now is going into the advanced "about:config" page. In your situation you may want to do some investigating in the "internet options" in the control panel (if you're running Windows) as the IE (and its associated javascript) settings are here.

There should also be a "test" page at your school's "login" page as well that should be able to test your normal browser and the Lockdown browser. If you can't resolve the errors in this test, contact your school's IT help desk -- these employees get paid to diagnose and resolve errors in regards to the Lockdown browser.
