New Tabs and FF Nags

"Hi, for security reasons, from Firefox 41, you need to use an add-on to make changes to the New Tab page."

Someone PLEASE explain to me how on EARTH me cusomizing MY new Tab to be MY homepage is a friggin SECURITY issue? Sounds a lot more like Firefox shoving THEIR BS down our throats by making it an annoyance to customize so they can show us the previews they want. Also how do I get rid of that irritating nag dialogue at the bottom that keeps coming back about taking better screenshots?? WHO CARES?? Firefox is getting as bad as Google about this crap.

Hi Nunya65, the issue is not what you want to change it to, but how you change it. Before Firefox 41, any add-on or any program on your system could change your new tab page simply by creating or changing a preference in the prefs.js or an optional user.js file or an Autoconfig file that could lock you out of changing it back yourself. So that method was removed and you need an extension to override the built-in page. Believe me, you don't want to go back.

This extension does what you want:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/

This one offers more flexibility but you need to go to its Options on the Add-ons page, Extensions list, to select the desired replacement page:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/

Does that work for you?
