All emails I send out come into my own INBOX-Folder, too

When I send an email out, then it also sends a copy this email to my own INBOX-Folder. Then, when I delete this email from my INBOX-Folder, this email gets deleted from my SENT-Folder and my ALL MAIL-Folder, too. Please help.

Kind regards,

Harry

re :when I delete this email from my INBOX-Folder, this email gets deleted from my SENT-Folder and my ALL MAIL-Folder, too.

Gmail stores all of your emails, both sent and received and archived in the 'All Mail' folder. Any email you see in any other imap folder is displayed by gmail applying a 'label' to it in the 'All Mail' folder. So it does not matter how many labels you apply - meaning you can see a copy of it in other folders - if the email is deleted from the 'All Mail' folder, it does not exist, so it is impossible to display in other folders.

Any email you delete and send to gmail imap Trash folder, will get deleted. If you have settings to empty gmail imap Trash upon exit then they get deleted from 'All Mail' folder. If you do not have settings to empty Trash on exit then Gmail will auto empty the Trash every 30 days. Emails that are in the 'Trash' when it gets emptied will get deleted from 'All Mail'.

So, the fact that you are deleting it and sending it to gmail TRash and you discover it has also gone from everywhere means everything is working correctly from that perspective.

If you are getting a copy of an email in the 'Inbox' then check to see if you cc'ing yourself or whether you have a settings to put replies in same box as message being replied to.

  • Right click on imap gmail account name folder in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • Select 'Server Settings'

Is 'Place a copy in' selected ? Have you selected 'Other' and the setting says the 'Inbox on imap gmail account' when it should say 'Sent Mail on gmail account'? Have you selected checkbox 'Place replies in the folder of the message being replied to' Have you selected either of the 'Cc or Bcc these email addresses' and entered your email address.

Please note: if you delete an email and do not put it into gmail Trash then only the 'label' is removed.

To Delete a message which bypasses the Trash (no Undo!), press/hold down 'Shift' key and press the 'Delete' key.

So if an email in 'All Mail' had these labels applied 'Inbox', 'Sent' allowing email to be displayed in both of those locations and you used the 'Shift+Del' delete method on the one in the 'Inbox', then only the Inbox label will get removed, so email still exists in 'All Mail' and still has the 'Sent' label.

. Hi Toad-Hall,

Thank you a bunch for taking your time to respond to my question. I have multiple gmail ( IMAP ) accounts. The settings are all the same. Unfortunately, only 1 account has the glitch that all emails I send out come into my own INBOX-Folder as well. I followed all your recommendations, but this problem is not resolved.

Thank you for this little trick. That helps a lot.

Kind regards,

Harry
