In the previous version I could choose for every account not to have separate folders, but Inbox could be the Local folders Inbox. In new version I can choose to keep Sent, Drafts, Archives, Templates in Local Folders, but not the Inbox.

You need to use POP to connect to your accounts for it to work like that. POP remains available in Thunderbird, but if you have set up your accounts afresh it will almost certainly have selected IMAP for you.

In Thunderbird's menu, Tools|Account Settings|{select account}|Server Settings→Server type tells you what type of connection the account uses. I am assuming you use Windows here, if not: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences_in_Windows,_Linux,_and_Mac

No menu? Press <alt>.

You can add the accounts again, but this time decline the offered settings for IMAP and insert the appropriate values for POP connections.

If perchance you have actually obtained POP connections already, the option is still there. Look under Tools|Account Settings|{select account}|Server Settings→Advanced and change the setting for the Inbox to be used. The drop-down list includes an option for "Global Inbox".

I also have this problem. But I still have Thunderbird running on another machine where all my accounts are Imap and I have a Global inbox. So how do I get that on my new machine and keep the accounts set up as imap accounts?

OK found how to get a unified inbox view for multiple Imap email addresses. View> Folders >Unified

Simple. why could anyone else say this?
