FF demands QuickTime plug-in installation on certain sites, but I already have the latest QT plug-in installed (7.6.6).
When I visit some websites, I get a "missing plug-in needed" warning for certain media content. When I click through, it demands that QuickTime be installed. I have the very latest version of QT and the FF QT plug-in already. This has been an issue for a couple of years, through earlier FF versions and QT versions. I'm wondering if this a page html coding issue, and has nothing to do with FF or QT?

What do you see on the about:plugins page from the QuickTime plugin?

Make sure that the MP3 file extension is selected in the QuickTime Preferences (Browser).

Tried that- didn't work. Have tried various configurations of Quicktime and The mp3 applications in FF options (there are three different mp3 types listed). No configuration allows certain multi-media or audio to play on certain websites- I just get the Missing Plug-In message about QuickTime.

truly useless between Apple and Firefox. I can understand Firefox giving the round-around. It's free. Ask me to register then lose where I am at in asking a question. But Apple? Very surprised. Catch-22. Need to do a manual install. Fine, install and still the crap does not work. Firefox apparently cannot find the installed QuickTime. My big and super stupid mistake was to upgrade QuickTime from 7.1 to 7.6.7. When will I learn? DO NOT UPGRADE when dealing with sloppy software. Apple does not care about Windows for obvious reasons. How many hours to spend on a super stupid plugin from QuickTime that I use maybe once every couple months?
oh, the super stupid software is installed correctly according to the QuickTime test page. so it's a problem between Firefox. I bet if I downgrade back to QuickTime 7.1 all will work. I was trying to use the patent database and unfortunately they use QuickTime for the images. I guess the government workers find Windows too complicated.
If QuickTime is installed and you still get an error that QT is required then most likely the MIME type that is needed is not selected in the QuickTime Preferences.
Did you check that?
I have FF 3.6.12, the latest Quicktime Plugin 7.6.8.0, all MIME types selected and I still get the message "Additional plugins are required ..." for the webpage http://smu.edu/totw/meter.htm which has embedded midi files.
I've looked for other midi plugins for FF, but haven't found anything yet.
A 'better' solution, to avoid more time wasting with Quicktime, is to use wmpfirefoxplugin.exe which is the WMP plugin I found. At least it does work!
Actually, using the WMP plugin makes the Quicktime Plugin work! How this happens is a mystery to me!
