I had a few ?'s and didn't find answers in support section.

1) With windows Live Mail vanishing... need to change to new e-mail provider. Do I get to use the same e-mail address I have used for many years? or does it need to change? It is an msn.com address of long standing. Likewise it would be a major process to change e-mail address. With WLM stopping utilization- does that block the WLM from relaying to default Thunderbird e-mail?

2) Re: the need for the import 3rd party add-on... is that secure? or does site keep copies of everything routed through it?

3) We have secure phones (half work and half home) BlackBerry 10.3 OS Classic model. Does Thunderbird work on such a phone? or can the Android version be maneuvered to work on the phone? Does Thunderbird work with the security features and the WatchDox suite on the phone?

4) I reviewed the info presented in the Using Attachments section. Does Thunderbird work with compression capability (i.e.- Winzip/etc.)?

5) I saw the mention re: spam and wondered if there was phishing protection with Thunderbird? Other security features of Thunderbird? (Many anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-spyware packages do not scan e-mail attachments. Does Thunderbird facilitate or encourage e-mail screening for computer protection and e-mail safety?

Thanks in advance-

Gene

Some of your questions betray some confusion about email.

Neither WLM nor Thunderbird is an "email provider". They are email clients, used to collect and send email messages in conjunction with a server. Thunderbird can work with any provider who offers the industry standard POP, IMAP and SMTP systems. You don't need to change provider (aka, in this context, "email address").
2) Re: the need for the import 3rd party add-on... is that secure? or does site keep copies of everything routed through it?
Add-ons are small programs that enhance Thunderbird. I have yet to meet one that does anyhting covert or untoward. What is "the site" you are postulating about?
3) We have secure phones (half work and half home) BlackBerry 10.3 OS Classic model. Does Thunderbird work on such a phone? or can the Android version be maneuvered to work on the phone? Does Thunderbird work with the security features and the WatchDox suite on the phone?
Thunderbird is a desktop email client for Windows, Macintosh and Linux computers. It doesn't run on iPads, Blackberries or Android devices.
4) I reviewed the info presented in the Using Attachments section. Does Thunderbird work with compression capability (i.e.- Winzip/etc.)?
In what context? You can zip anything to a compressed file and send that as an attachment. "Send to" tends not to work well with Thunderbird.
Thunderbird has a built in spam recognition tool. We discourage the use of real time scanning of either incoming or outgoing email; it messes up your email store and is somewhat pointless in outgoing messages. By all means scan on opening attachments etc.
