Followed the instructions given in article: http://mzl.la/1BsOu32 OS Windows7 Thunderbird 52.4.0 (32-bit) Hotmail settings: pop-mail.outlook.com, port 995, security SSl/TLS, normal password smtp-mail.outlook.com , port 587, security STARTTLS , normal password

The message received is: Sending of password for user [email protected] did not succeed. Mail server pop-mail.outlook.com responded: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. Both user & password are correct. My hotmail account has 2 steps verification. Note: 1) For gmail account the 2 step verification was activated (authentication method: OAuth2) and the account was created and is working. 2) trying authentication method: OAuth2 for hotmail returns error

Chosen solution

Did you create an app password? Use that, for 'normal password' authentication; TB doesn't support OAuth for hotmail.
