Why is my profile gone?

more options

Dear FF volunteers,

Thank you for your service!!!

FF showed note that start process is slow and I should reset settings. I did so. And also deleted the profile and created a new profile just to be safe and start from a very clean slate.

The new profile worked for a few hours fine, but when I start Firefox now, it opens with a new profile, i.e. all bookmarks and extensions are gone, except for the Lastpass and Avast plugin.

Why?

I had installed these extensions: Lasspass, Avast antivirus, easy copy, Adblock plus, Bbuffer, Fireshot.

Is one of them corrupting the Firefox profile?

When I press the "Automatically add" button for Troubleshooting information here in this form, I get the error message that it can't connect to the mozilla server. I had the same problem when installing the lastpass extension. Which I then did my manually installing it.

I appreciate your help!

Joerg

Avast 2015 is known for deleting Firefox add-ons. http://www.ghacks.net/2014/11/16/latest-avast-reportedly-deleting-firefox-add-ons/

There's also an issue with Avast HTTPS scanning. http://www.ghacks.net/2014/10/31/avasts-https-scanning-interferes-with-firefox-and-other-programs/

See Avast for an update for their program.

Thank you!

I already have the latest version of AVAST. So I would need to wait until they fix it or get a different programme. Such a shame, AVAST had done a great job and was low on computer resources.

Did you try to update Avast from within that program? I haven't used Avast for number of years now, but as I recall there was an "Update" item in the Avast icon in the Windows System Tray, and either a click or a right-click brought up the Menu with the "Check for Updates" menu item to do a manual update check.
