Will Firefox account sync work in frontmotion firefox

more options

Hi, My organization decided to stop using Firefox , I am not sure why, they deploy "frontmotion firefox" from their automated server push system, so we are forced to use Frontmotion firefox only, I have account with Mozilla Firefox, and sync regularly, the same account I use with my desktop as well Laptop and other devices to get same feel all the places, Is it possible to use same account and get sync with frontmotion firefox?

Thanks alot,

Regards Paddy

IMO, unless FrontMotion disabled Sync it should work. But the people to ask is FrontMotion or other users of FrontMotion, as no one other than James seems to know about their long history with Firefox with supporting the .msi builds for Enterprise users.

IMO, Firefox Accounts registration thru Firefox to the Firefox Accounts web page is safe - if it works with FrontMotion builds. The users security won't be affected and their data will be encrypted as heavily as it is for ALL Firefox users who use the Sync service.

Unfortunately the FrontMotion user support fora seems to be gone or not working now: https://forums.frontmotion.com/ And this Mozilla Firefox support forum doesn't "officially" provide support for 3rd-party builds which are based upon Firefox code. Although some support contributors do try to help the 3rd party version users the best that they as individuals can help. That was the place for FrontMotion users to seek support for changes they made to Firefox as a 3rd party builder of what was allowed to use the name "Firefox" and other intellectual that is owned by Mozilla. "Grandfathered" so to speak over new rules that were implemented years after FrontMotion started there Firefox .msi build program to serve a segment (institutional users) that Mozilla wasn't prepared to support in the early days of Firefox; FrontMotion filled a need and helped Mozilla build-up their Firefox user-base, IMO.

Not surprising since Mozilla now provides an Enterprise build via the ESR channel (Extended Support Release build). After 12 - 14 years FrontMotion may be getting out of doing Firefox .msi builds or have stopped providing a user support forum for end users.

I'm not sure, but that "Frontmotion Firefox" seems to be sketchy, and definitely unsupported and unofficial version of Firefox.

Your organization should use Firefox ESR, https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/, which will work with Firefox Sync

Hi, On their web site ( https://www.frontmotion.com/fmfirefoxce/ ) they say

FrontMotion Firefox Community Edition is a customized version of Firefox with the ability to lockdown settings through Active Directory using Administrative Templates. Similar to lockdown settings with mozilla.cfg on one computer, you can now use Administrative Templates to enforce settings across your organization. Save time and frustration with our installer that is targeted toward the corporate IT administrator with manageability and upgradeability in mind. Note FrontMotion Firefox Community Edition is not Mozilla Firefox since there are code changes.

but in settings and sync , when I click sign in , it takes me to Firefox account page https://accounts.firefox.com/signin?service=sync&context=fx_desktop_v3&entrypoint=menupanel

I am totally confused, can I give my firefox credentials there? and is it safe! hoping some one from Firefox team answer this quetion.

Thanks alot

As I said, your IT department should be using Firefox ESR, which is designed by Mozilla for enterprise deployments. I don't know what this frontmotion group is, but I wouldn't trust it

FrontMotion has been around a long time and is something some may suggest when people come looking for a .msi version of Firefox as Mozilla does not offer it.
