Just because TB asks for new account does not mean anything is lost; it may just mean that TB doesn't know where it is. Click the windows icon in taskbar, enter run on next window. A small window will open where you can enter thunderbird.exe -p and press enter. That brings up profile manager and from there you can click 'create profile' and browse and select your profile, which is probably at c:\\(your name)\appdata\roaming\thumderbird\profile, with a name similar to 123456.default. If there is more than one select the bigger one. Give it a name in profile manager and continue to tb.
