I want to make a donation, but you are askoing for my name, address etc. I do not hand these out unless there is a direct need (deliveries etc). Can't I just donate? I have a Firefox account and I am signed in.

Thanks

Nick

Chosen solution

Try using askjoin[at]mozilla.org as shown on the FAQs page.

Sorry most of us are unpaid volunteers and not involved directly with any of the donation procedures.

I imagine that unless you are using some sort of secure terminal and are present in person many transactions; or postal donations require the cardholders address for security purposes. Otherwise possibly fraudsters could clone and use your card, or change the billing address without you being aware of it.

Hi Nick, do you mean the Mozilla Foundation form that is currently featured on the built-in Firefox home page? I'm not aware of a different form at this time. Unless you need to give in the next 48 hours to qualify for a possible 2013 tax year charitable contribution, maybe hold that thought until someone from the Mozilla Foundation can answer the question. (I think they're closed for the holiday week until 2014.)

Thanks for the reply.

I am not sure about the FF embedded home page. I may have had that at some stage, but I now have Google search and the instructions for restoring a home page do not fit my Android.

However...I received an email asking for donations to FF. That took me to https://sendto.mozilla.org/page/contribute/EOYFR2013-emailEN?source=email_FFY_EN_imglink1_20131230&amount=10.

It appears to be genwine, but I just cannot see the need for all my private info. I will pay by Paypal.

OK that takes care of one part :).

Is there any way I can donate without all the personal details?

You my use this form to send a cheque. The form has space for your details and also a tick-box for an anonymous donation.

P.S. I note this already has offtopic and escalate tags, I will leave those in place.

"Fair market value of the T-shirt is $7 USD" - this is a very good value, or a very small shirt. ;-)

Thank you, and Happy Holidays everyone!

So unless I send a cheque (very not an easy option for me these days), I have to give my name and address? That just seems to make it hard and I see no reason for asking.

BTW I know this is OT, but I couldn't find anywhere else to ask.

No problem about my offtopic comment, that relates to a new escalation system being rolled out that try to make sure such questions get answered especially ones like yours that may need someone from another area of Mozilla to provide answers. Most of us (without the Administrator icon) on this forum are unpaid volunteers.

I wonder if bitcoins are used !? I suppose you could resort to cash in an envelope !! Use the emaill address on the faqs page and see if that gets a reply about how to donate without providing such information. If you post back with an answer it may help others.

I did not find an email address on the FAQs. I have found all of this most awkward. I am not going to send cash in the mail. ( I use a different currency for a start)

My point is that I WANT TO GIVE MONEY AND MOZILLA IS MAKING IT HARD TO DO. I have NEVER seen anyone demand my private info so that I can, freely and without any requirement of recognition or delivered goods, SIMPLY GIVE THEM MONEY.

I give online money to many situations that I feel worthy. Not ONE of them has demanded totally unnecessary info from me. If they did they would not get my money.

And there we stand.

OK. I will let this go. Marked as solved, because as you guys say, you have no control over the donation process.

Thanks for your tries at helping.

Paid HelpDesk staff should be back anytime soon, at least I hope they will give you a better answer then.

It is useful information to know if we are getting such requests.

I was getting a Firefox Newsletter in my mail and then they asked my for a yearly donation. I cancelled my subscription and they asked me why . I told them because they were asking for money and that they don't need my money as they get $300 million dollars from Google each year. No , I will not donate to beloved Firefox. They don't need it.

I just confirmed with our Donation staff: Users who have Paypal can sign into their own paypal account, then "send money" to recipient "[email protected]". That way donors don't have to go through our donations form and provide form field data.

Alternatively donors can send check or monetary donations to:

Cheers.
