SOLVED : One mail adress subfolder is still "gone"
Hello dear developers, engineers, and support,
For the first time in many, many years, I'm having complications with a Thunderbird mail folder, whose contents, the mails, don't get displayed any more.
I manage several e-mail adresses, and some of them have directories with quite large contents, I regularly accept the proposed compacting, and then place Thunderbird on another virtual desktop. So I suspect, it has to do with a compacting operation which got interrupted, as I shut down the computer, ignoring that the compacting may still have been taking place.
The folder itself is still visible on the left side of Thunderbird main window. This folder hosts all mail which has a certain term in the subject. The good news is when I do "Search messages" (in that folder) for that term, then all mail is displayed in the search window (altogether 5308 pieces of mail). So it is there. The main window also displays the same number of unread mail as that shown in the search window. And if I click on any mail in the search window, it gets displayed in a separate tab in the main window. So it is there, and it "really" "seems" to be "just" the display...
I went through this: https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/compacter-les-dossiers#w_complications-potentielles , as well as that: https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/compacting-folders-potential-complications
I did (in the main window) Folder (that with the failure), right click -> Properties -> Repair folder (three times), it didn't help. I did (in the main window) File -> Compact (all) folders , it didn't help.
In my /home/.../icedove/.../Mail/pop3.xxx.net folder there is a file with the name of the mail folder, it has a size of 923MB, the file with the same name with extension .msf has 3,8 MB
What should I do ?
Really thanks very much for the support you can give, and thanks anyway for all the great work on this classic programme that has accompanied me for years now.
Best regards
Ludo

Chosen solution
HI everyone,
Problem solved : 1 - after placing a copy of the .msf file in a further secure location, 2 - I simply deleted the .msf file matching the troubled mail directory in the /home/.../.icedove/... subfolder, 3 - I restarted Thunderbird, 4 - a new .msf file was re-created for the troubled folder 5 - all the mail was visible again.
Thank you very much for your kind attention.
