I've never had a problem "bookmarking a page." But with live bookmarking, not all sites can be subscribed to. How can I do as I always did and bookmark a page?

You can continue to bookmark a page like you've always done.

This article will explain what 'Live Bookmarks' means :

Live bookmarks are loaded from a web servers as an XML file. This file is parsed by Firefox or another Feed/RSS capable application and the result is shown in a drop-down list. So the Live feed is a special type of bookmark.

Note that feed support will be removed in a future Firefox and you would have to use an external application or website.
