After update, firefox won't run just blank page. Uninstall, reinstall but same. Now won't even install, just extracts files to some unknown place.

In the middle of working using net yesterday, must have been an update. Firefox closed. When I tried to reopen, all I got was blank page with busy icon. Uninstalled, reinstalled, but the same. I'm using IE to get on net. Firefox downloads but doesn't run automatically. When I run it, it extracts files but I don't know to where. And, still nothing happens, it won't even install now.

hi, what security software are you running on the affected system?

more options

I'm using Webroot. I have Firefox & Webroot on my laptop as well. No problems there. Only on my desktop PC.

thank you, could you test if the issue is still present with this beta build of firefox 59? https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/candidates/59.0b4-candidates/build1/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2059.0b4.exe

The files extract, it says the operation completed successfully. Firefox isn't installed. Nothing else happened.

I would like more information.

  1. Where did you download Firefox from?
  2. How much free disk space have you got?
  3. What happens when you disable Webroot and Windows Firewall and any other security software and re-attempt the install?
more options

1. I downloaded from Mozilla.org 2. C: 239 GB; D: 188 GB 3. Ran security scan for a minute or so, then nothing.

You got O/S problem here and something obviously is blocking the install. Uninstall Webroot as well before installing FF. I have Defender and Windows Firewall and have no issue with FF installs or running. I think you need to get better security software if you can't install FF.

Regarding "Disabled WebRoot. Can't uninstall Firefox because it won't install." This behavior is unusual. Removal of Firefox does not require its installation. Please provide a screenshot or several.

Please also query WebRoot technical support and ask them to help you:

I uninstalled Webroot and disabled Windows Firewall, then tried again. Finally, FF installed. I'll be fascinated to ever find out why all of this started happening all of a sudden.

Thanks, for all your help.

I had this issue too, with 58.0.1, 64-bit. On OSX High Sierra (10.13.2), no third-party security software running.

Any page loaded would be blank. However, clicking "view source" on the page, would show that the html had loaded.

Forme, the fix--in case it helps someone else: I Refreshed firefox then manually re-installed each add-on. This resolved the issue.
