For the last 2/3 weeks the set up has been monumentally slow to access the tabs, why?

When logging in to the Firefox page, and clicking on for the tabs to appear the action was instantaneous but for the past few weeks the time period between clicking on for the tabs to appear is taking nearly a minute and then clicking on to access one of the pages can also take ages. I remember a Firefox message coming up on the main page that indicated you had changed the set up procedure and that you said it was the fastest ever! Well it went wrong about the same time, and I'm afraid it is now the slowest ever! Can someone please explain what has gone wrong and how to correct it. Thank you. Francesca

hello, could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

Hi, Adblock Plus has been slowing things down for some recently, so if you have it, try disabling it - Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Extensions. An alternative is https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin

If you don't have it, please follow the instructions given by philipp above.

When multi-process windows in Firefox is enabled then Firefox will use more memory and may be less responsive. Try to disable multi-process windows in Firefox to see if that has effect.

You can disable multi-process windows in Firefox by setting these prefs to false on the about:config page.

  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

You can open the about:config page: via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
