How do I find out what program my bookmarks, which have disappeared after using System Restore, are in?

Please know that I am very ignorant about computers. I mostly do what my husband instructs me to do. Yesterday, I was having problems. After trying several things, my husband ran System Restore, which seemed to fix things. However, my bookmarks have disappeared. After going round and round trying to find them again, I ended up with the bookmarks backup file, but each time I clicked on it, I got that Windows notice that it could not run the file(s) because it didn't know what program the file was in. Having Windows find the program was useless, and when I tried to do it manually, I was faced with a list of several programs but with absolutely no idea which program to check. My husband could not determine this, either. How do I know what program the bookmarks file is in?

You need to restore a compressed .jsonlz4 as you find in the bookmarkbackups folder in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager (Library).

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item-count>_<hash>.jsonlz4
  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File
